PURIRI MOTH
In the weekend I had a Puriri Moth hatch from when my dad went up to the gum tree at the back of our house and he found three cacoons. We googled about them on the internet. It said that they can stay in their cacoon depending on the weather for four to five years. We shoved the sticks in some soil under a tree in a pot plant and waited and waited and waited. It was not until that very Friday morning that I discovered a small beady hole the size of a marble, only a small marble though. We searched the house and I mean the whole house but we found nothing sadly. Sooner or later we forgot about the moth and settled down on the couch. "HOLLY," yelled dad. I walked down the hall to find a beautiful, creamy, wood coloured moth vibrating on the carpet. We sat down around it and watched it pump the fluids through its wings. LEDGENDARY! He was he had great big feelers that looked like leaves and giant eyes on his lower wings. It was sad to see him go but wait theres two more coming.

On Wednesday the year 5's helped plant some fruit trees at the end of the court. We hope they will start fruiting next year and we can have fruit for lunch.
Hockey
On Tuesday Mac came to take a hockey lesson. He went over skills learnt last year and finished with a game. It was lots of fun. Since Immanuel has a sore leg he took the photos. Didn't he do a good job?

School Experts - Mr and Mrs Mills
Today room 5 had Mr and Mrs Mills visit as to talk about what Kaiwaka school was like when they attended. Not only are they past pupils of Kaiwaka School but their grandchildren attend the school. We loved seeing the old photos and hearing about the school when it was only two classrooms and you rode horses to school.

In 2050 I feel awesome because I have always wondered what it would be like in the future and now I can experience it!

1970's School Day
Last week Room 5 dressed up as though they were in the seventys. We sen our desks up like the seventys and spent the day learning like they did back then. We also had a 1911 school day and a 2050 school day. Lots of fun! We are currently learning about school rules so will soon be comparing the rules form the different times.
The Big Tree is Down!

Up and Coming Scientists
Room 5 are becoming very smart with their science. Our wonderful student teacher Mrs Burbidge is helping us with this special project. At the moment we are making things such as: butter,ice-cream with more interesting things to come. Did I mention that we have been experimenting with food colouring, milk and dish washing liquid. When you put the food colouring in the milk and then the dish washing liquid the food colouring will expand and all the colours will combine making a rainbow. I'm Blossom and I'll send more information to to keep you up to date.

Room Fives Class Made PE Games

The first thing we did was to get out our topic books and figure out a game to make up. Well, we taught it to the children from Room two and three. My game was called Rarsket Ball. It is a combination of rugby and basket ball. All you need is: CHALK and TAGS to go around your body. Then you need a team with four players. Now with the chalk you need to draw a circle or a goalpost. There are only five touches and then it's hand over so you have to use your team very well.

Taki Rua

Guess what happened on Friday the 15th of July? Room 4 and Room 5 went for a short drive on the bus to see the Taki Rua show in Te hana at the new marae. A lady came out and called us all in so we sat down and waited. After all of the talking it was morning tea. Then the show started. There were three people performing and it went on for about an hour. They acted out thier ideas about leadership. Then it was time to go home. As we left the performers gave us their poster. Off we went.
