The Giant Pumpkin

We have been very lucky this week, Paige brought in a Giant Pumpkin that she has grown. She also shared some interesting information with us.

Here it is:

This is my Giant Atlantic Pumpkin. The heaviest Giant Atlantic Pumpkin on record weighed 776kg. It was grown in Rhode Island in 2007. These pumpkins are not edible. If you would like to have a pumpkin growing competition please let me know so I can save some seeds for next spring. Did you know a pumpkin is a fruit not a vegetable? They need a lot of watering and feeding. Dad helped me make up a fertilizer food for my pumpkin which was made up with chicken poo and water. Any questions please?

The children had great questions for Paige and liked the idea of chicken poo fertilizer.

Thank you Paige.

Multiple Intelligences

This week Room5 have been learning about the different multiple intelligences and how we can use them to help us learn.

Multiple Intelligences

This week Room 5 have been learning about the different multiple intelligences and how we can use these to learn new things. Everyone has favourite intelligences or 'smarts' that they like to use. Ask your children which ones they enjoy. In the photo the children have been using 'picture smart' and making posters of the three times tables.

Student Teacher

This week room 5 had a student teacher visiting. Here is Mrs Burbidge working with the children.

Simile

This term the students in room 5 have been learning to use deeper language features in their writing. Here are some examples of their work. The WALT (We are learning to...) and Success Criteria can be found at the side of the blog. Feel free to comment positively on the students work.

Our Home
The sea is like a big bath full of animals.
The bath will break if we don’t look after it.
The land is like a big balloon.
The balloon will pop if we don’t look after it.
Both together: it’s our home.
We should look after it.
We can’t go to the shops and get a new one

The Glitter Fish

When I ran into the water
I saw a scale off a fish, so precise.

When the tide came in
I saw a fish,
It was like a rainbow disappearing, into the deep blue sky.

WEDNESDAY 11th MARCH

Boom, splash, crack, as the tree fell over like a milo splashing everywhere.
In the morning the fields were covered with water.

When I went to the beach the sea was like ice. Crash, crash, as the ice cold water hit the sand. When I turned around all the trees tumbled down like a big storm. The storm was hitting the water. I was so frightened. The lightened was like the sun burning on you. OUCH!

Desert Rain Storm

One night, thunder striked. Boom,
Crash! It was a desert storm. Water rolled down like a river flowing fast.

Umbrellas go up like mushrooms, like flowers.
