Local Constable Visits Room 5

On Tuesday, our local Constable visited the classroom to answer any questions of the tamariki and to share ideas on how to keep safe when traveling in cars. Everyone had a go at wearing the special safety jacket. Thank you Constable Marnie for coming in and being so open with us, we appreciate the time you gave us.

Movie Up-date

Congratulations Room 5, our 'NZ Moa Meat' movie has been short listed for the finials. We will find out on Sunday if you have won.

We had an amazing night with so many people turning up to our Movie Premiere that we could hardly fit them all in. The adults were treated to cheese and crackers while the children had pots of popcorn. It was a great chance to celebrate the new learning of the students in Room 5. We are already reflecting on our learning and getting excited about what we will do next. I promise you that we are also looking at how to solve our sound problems. so next time you will be able to hear our movies too.

Cross Country 2010

On the 31st of May it was Cross Country.I was sitting on the grand stand. All the children were zooming past. Finally it was my race.I came first for the 10 year old girls.
By Hannah

On the 31st of May it was Cross Country, everybody did well. I was watching everyone race around. I was so scared when it was my turn. I had to run 2 laps of the whole field. It was finally over.

On the 31st of May it was Cross Country. It was time for my race. I had
butterflies in my stomach. Well, I was getting ready and then BANG!! I ran as fast as I could. I had to do two laps around the whole field. It was so, so hard.
By Tyler

As I sat, stiff, on the stand, I heard a loud bang. Kids zoomed so fast from the start line that their feet lifted off the freshly mowed grass. They flew off the hay bales like ninjas, jumped over the hurdles like kangaroos, and slithered their way under the net like snakes on the prowl. But finally the finish line got closer and the kids got faster. "Come on", I shouted. "You can do it". Then, whack Holly fell face first over the finish line, but wait here comes Holly closer, closer. She had made it. Soon all the 9 year old girls piled on top of each other like a bag of juicy red apples. At least nearly everyone in the school crossed the finish line "HOORAY"

At Cross Country I had a good race, even though I came last. Everyone cheered me on. That was good but I stopped on my first lap. I was no good. I like jumping over the staff in my race. We had to run 2 Laps around the small fields and the big field too. These are results: Tyler came 1st, Rhyme came 2nd, Patrick 3rd, Jesse 4th,
Mason 5th, Joey 6th, Immanuel 7th. Cross Country was cool.
By Immanuel

Go, go, go! We sprinted off and I was coming 3rd. It went like this: 2nd ,3rd ,2nd ,3rd ,2nd ,3rd ,2nd ,3rd between Rhyme,Tyler, and I. We are all going to Bream Bay. I hope I win in my race. We got really, really puffed. So we just jogged 1 lap and a half. It is very hard and I was not fit. So if you race, don't give up, preserve. It is a good sport, so never give up.

The Water Cycle Hyperlink

This is the hyperlink of the water cycle I have made for the students. It has useful websites on it.

The Effects of Humans on the Water Cycle

This may interest some of you. You may want to look more in depth at the effects humans have on the water cycle and our planet.

Water Cycle Slideshows Made by Other Students.

This is a powerful way of sharing new learning. You can easily see the new learning for these students (from America) on their slideshows. Room 5 I would like you to have a go at making your own slideshows or movies to share your learning at the end of out 'water cycle' inquiry.
