Childrens' Writing

We are currently doing an inquiry of Fairy Tales. Here are some of the children's descriptions of the woodcutters axe from 'Little Red Riding Hood'. Their goal was to use adjectives:

Once upon a time there lived a hunter with an axe. It was bright red. It was huge.
By Katie

The axe is as sharp as a knife. The axe is as shinny as a diamond.
By Jade

The axe is sharp, and grey brown and dangerous.
By Tyler Y

The axe is sharp and strong, also dangerous. It's mighty powerful strength is tough and curvy.
By Mason

I hope you enjoyed these as much as I did.

Leaf Fight

On Wednesday the children had a leaf fight. Afterwards we wrote about what we did. It was lots fun. The children decided to make teams and seperated into boys and girls.

Camp

The children had a wonderful time at camp. They pushed themselves and over came challenges like the flying fox and 'Rock Up'. It was great to see them working together as teams of different ages. Parents, thank you for your contribution. We could not do camp with out you support.

The Giant Pumpkin

We have been very lucky this week, Paige brought in a Giant Pumpkin that she has grown. She also shared some interesting information with us.

Here it is:

This is my Giant Atlantic Pumpkin. The heaviest Giant Atlantic Pumpkin on record weighed 776kg. It was grown in Rhode Island in 2007. These pumpkins are not edible. If you would like to have a pumpkin growing competition please let me know so I can save some seeds for next spring. Did you know a pumpkin is a fruit not a vegetable? They need a lot of watering and feeding. Dad helped me make up a fertilizer food for my pumpkin which was made up with chicken poo and water. Any questions please?

The children had great questions for Paige and liked the idea of chicken poo fertilizer.

Thank you Paige.
